Today has been a day full of adventure and joy in the Nahid household. My beautiful 4-year old niece Lily was brave enough to come and stay with us over the weekend, and we couldn't be more delighted to have her. We packed up a picnic lunch this morning and headed to the Pennyrile State Forest, which is located on the outskirts of Hoptown, in a little town called Crofton. The weather was perfect, especially if you like the sultry summer days in the South. Next, we traveled to another open field where my husband attempted to fly a kite, not to much avail I must say! Abraham managed to make himself utterly frustrated and desiring to have a pity party because quote, "I am no good at flying kites." That's his little mind...wants to conquer it the first time, no practice or skills necessary! Our third rendevous brought us to the infamous Merchant Mall, an indoor flea market filled with every item known to man...and unknown as well. The children had a ball as they scampered from one booth to the next, playing with the various second-hand toys, gadgets, books and knick-knacks better known as kitch to Lily's daddy. Let's just call this market Kitch Heaven! Of course, we were compelled to purchase several more kitchy items on top of the ones already in our possession. Ah, the American Dream!
I must say I am truly enjoying this sweet, feminine presence in my home this weekend. My cat Pumpkin is the only other feminine presence, and a feline just can't always relate. Lily has added a pleasant softness that is missing in a home of all boys and one gal! Don't get me wrong...I do love my sons and my husband dearly and woudn't change them for anything, yet there is something so special about a mother having a little girl; the innocence, the purity, the gentleness. It is like a refreshing and relaxing presence in the midst of a very driven, advancing one. I told my husband that it was not that girls couldn't be demanding and bossy, but underneath, there is a softness, a calmness. I am so amazed at how differently our Lord created us, men and women, boys and girls. It is truly amazing to behold and yet is hard to explain as well.
I am so thankful to have had the privilege to keep Lily in our home with us for a few days. She is a blessing in so many ways. Last night, she wanted me to scratch her back, and she just lay so still, not squirming or giggling at the slightest touch. She has such a quick mind, yet such a delicate way about her. Her blue eyes sparkle and she has her mother's smile. How precious being an aunt to such a precious niece truly is.
