There are time when you just need a little encouragement in your mothering (or parenting) journey. Today, the Lord decided to shower me with a blessing of encouragement which came through my son Abraham.
Micah was outside playing basketball, shooting "hoola hoops" as he likes to call it. I noticed that Abraham had come inside and was rummaging around in the school room area of our home. He was coloring something. I asked him what he was doing, and he said he was making Micah a card. He said, "You know, like the ones I make for Daddy!" He makes the card and then begins to look for an envelope. He uses a sticker for his stamp and proceeds to place the card in the mailbox (upon my suggestion). He then goes and tells Micah to check the mail. Micah runs in smiling and says, "Look, Abraham made me a card!"
My heart swelled with love at that simple and thoughtful gesture of affection from one brother to another. It is moments like these that give a parent the strength and perseverance to continue in the work and calling of the Lord; to train children in the Lord. It was such a seemingly small act of love, but for two rough and tumble boys who often would rather pester one another and wrestle each other to the ground, it was a cherished moment for this mother. I rejoiced and thanked God for it. It certainly beats hearing, "Mom, he's staring at me!" from the backseat of the car for the 100th time!!!!
