Breaking Free of Anger

Currently, the Lord is working in my heart about an anger issue I have had for many years. Basically, it is an issue of talking harshly to my children and my husband. Raising my voice, yelling, sometimes screaming! I have recently been convicted to the point that now the Lord can actually help me on the road to overcoming this sin. I have been crying out over and over for years in this weak area of my life, and I am thankful that the light is finally dawning. Admitting this weakness and being transparent about its reality is the first step to healing, so now you know. I struggle with it!

I am currently reading two books which are very helpful and so timely in my life. They are A Woman's Answer to Anger by Annie Chapman and Feeding Your Appetites: Take Control of What's Controlling You! by Stephen Arterburn. I love the way our Lord works in our life just when we need Him. When we are fully surrendered in a weak area of our life, that is when we can become stronger in Him.

So, for those of you my lady friends, who may struggle with anger as well, I want to tell you that you are not alone. Oh the shame I have dealt with to have had this stronghold in my life, and I know you may feel the same. But be encouraged. No matter what your triggers or your problems may be, we must cast ourselves and our cares upon Jesus, and He WILL help us. He will save us in time of need. He will meet us right at our point of brokenness and tears.

I will post more on this, but for now, I would like to leave you with a poem that truly touched my heart today.

The Power of Words

A careless word may kindle strife
A cruel word may wreck a life
A bitter word may hate instill
A brutal word may smite and kill

A gracious word may smooth the way
A joyous word may light the day
A timely word may lessen stress
A loving word may heal and bless

It doesn't take monumental feats to make the world a better place. It can be as simple as letting someone go ahead of you in a grocery line.
