Well, our homeschool adventure has "officially" begun in our home, and we are enjoying it. What helps me tremendously are two things: 1) having a "relaxed" or flexible plan each day and 2) making a weekly lesson plan and reviewing each day's plan the night before. These two simple things have helped me have a greater sense of peace and have also provided the security that my sons know what to expect each day, for the most part. I have never been a stringent scheduler or planner, as I tend to have no sense of time (so my hubby tells me!). Yet, we needed this and so the Lord has encouraged me and strengthened me to put effort into that area. Our days go something like this:
Morning:
Wake up approx. 7:00
boys do morning chores
Breakfast (currently studying underwater sea creatures during breakfast time, as they are both fascinated by them, especially Abraham)
Clean up
Bible lesson time
Language Arts time
Trip to the YMCA
Home for lunch/break/folding clothes while I fix lunch or some other chore
Lunchtime (boys currently like to look at maps and be quizzed on where places are. Fun!)
After lunch, do specific chores for that day, ie dusting, vacuuming, bathrooms
Science lesson
Geo/History lesson
Reading time together (library books or whatever we want)
Rest time for boys and me! (watch movie or lay and read, computer)
Play outside and/or help with supper until Daddy comes home
Dinner time
After dinner, Daddy has Math lesson with boys
Bathtime
More reading/prayer time
Bedtime!
This is not to say that we don't vary from this sometimes, but it is our general day in a nutshell. We may go to the park one day after the Y for a bit of exercise or something like that, but mostly the loose routine helps us tremendously. Just wanted to give you a little glimpse into our days!
Blessings to you!
