Christ Is Our All-Sufficient Land

I have been reading a book by Frank Viola entitled God's Ultimate Passion and am very much enjoying it. I want to share an excerpt with you today:

"Perhaps the greatest miscalculation you and I will ever make in our adventure with the Lord is to believe that we can live the Christian life on our own. Our own meager abilities to imitate God will always lead us into colossal failure. The Old Testament holds a mighty lesson on this very point. Namely, the land of Canaan was given to a people--not an individual.

It was a people who entered and possessed the land. It was a people who mined the land. It was a people who shared the riches of the land. In the same way, the Christian life is a plural experience. It is not an individual endeavor.

We know, pursue, explore, and enjoy the unsearchable riches of Jesus Christ as a people. We possess the reality of the land, we take the land, we dig the land, we mine the land, we till the land, we enjoy the land, and we live off the land together as a functioning Body of believers. It's a tribe of people, if you will, who possess the land and who are sustained by its limitless riches. It's never an individual task.

Jesus Christ, your glorious Lord, is an all-sufficient Land. And He is inexhaustible in His riches. Christ is an infinite treasure waiting to be explored. He is our journey and our exploration into the very heartbeat of our God. But His fullness can only be fully known amid a group of people. In the words of Paul, "That you would comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth, the length, and depth, and height" (Eph. 3:18). Exploring Christ as the all-sufficient Land has always been and will always be a corporate adventure."

It doesn't take monumental feats to make the world a better place. It can be as simple as letting someone go ahead of you in a grocery line.
