Thanksgiving in the 1600's...Let's Get It Back!

This excerpt taken from "The Thanksgiving Book" created by Jerome Agel and Jason Shulman --

Our earliest Thanksgivings centered on religious services. A typical Thanksgiving in New England in the late 1600's included two lengthy church services, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, with dinner in between. At these services, prayers and psalms were both spoken and sung.

Bring back an old Thanksgiving ritual this year. Start your meal with the joyful noise of "thanksgiving."

Psalm 100

Make a joyful noise to the Lord,
all the lands!
Serve the Lord with gladness!
Come into his presence with singing!

Know that the Lord is God!
It is he that made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him, bless his name!

For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures for ever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.

It doesn't take monumental feats to make the world a better place. It can be as simple as letting someone go ahead of you in a grocery line.
