God is Not A Reformer

I want to share an excerpt from the incredible book I am almost finished with entitled "Let God Be God: Life Changing Truths from the Book of Job" by Ray Stedman.

God's decisions cannot be questioned because He is an absolute sovereign over individuals and nations, and He accepts no substitute for righteousness. People sometimes want to come to God on their own terms and invent their own salvation. They say, "I promise to be a better person. I promise to reform." But reform is not what God wants from us.

Our Lord is not in the business of reforming people. He's in the business of renewing people. He doesn't want to make us better; He wants to make us new. God desires our repentance and relationship, not reform. It's not enough to say to God, "I'm guilty, but I will try not to do that again." What God demands of us is unconditional surrender, completely giving up the right to run our own lives. That is what God seeks from us, and He will accept no other basis for a relationship with Him."

As always, I welcome your thoughts and comments...

It doesn't take monumental feats to make the world a better place. It can be as simple as letting someone go ahead of you in a grocery line.
