New Mercies Every Morning

Have you ever had a day that everything was so disjointed and discombobulated that you literally could not wait for the day to be over? I had just such a day yesterday. I was moody. My sons were irritable and argumentative. Hubby was fatigued and withdrawn. It was far more than a "Calgon-take-me-away" kind of day.

As I laid down last night still in a tizzy (as we like to say in the South), I had a small amount of sanity left to listen to the Holy Spirit who led me to bring my Bible into the bed with me and read it. I was feeling drawn to one of my very favorite verses in the entire Bible. The prophet Jeremiah speaks,

"It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassion fails not.
They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.
The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.
It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord."
Lamentations 3:22-26

Words cannot begin to express to you the peace and joy I have found and continue to find in this one precious and priceless gem in God's Word. The gift of His mercies being new every morning is something beyond my comprehension, and I am so very thankful for God's faithfulness. His compassion NEVER fails toward us! Just meditate on this. Though my compassion runs very thin and dry at times, almost non-existent, yet this is not the case with God. How I praise Him for the gift of a new day and new mercy.

He is our portion. He is our Hope. He is our Compassionate, Faithful, Merciful Father. It is because of Him that we are not utterly consumed by this life. Truly, he redeems our days and makes all things new. Blessed be the holy name of Jesus.

It doesn't take monumental feats to make the world a better place. It can be as simple as letting someone go ahead of you in a grocery line.
