My grandfather, Robie Troutt, passed away last weekend. He was 89 years old. I was still recovering from the Hep A and was unable to attend his funeral. This made me extremely sad, as I grew up with my grandfather living just down the road from me for most of my life.
What I remember most about my PawPaw was that he loved to be outside. He had a huge garden that we always got the benefit of eating from, which was such a blessing. The tomatos he grew were just heavenly! I would put salt on them and eat them like an apple. The juice spilling out the sides as I sank my teeth in. Yum! He always was a deer hunter and a fisherman in his earlier years. He had a "fish-skinning station" built onto a tree in the backyard, and boy, did it stink! But when we had those fish-frys at his house, what a treat it was. Especially with my grandmother's hushpuppies! Not the healthiest food, but certainly some of the tastiest ever!
My grandfather also was a beekeeper. We always had a fresh supply of honey, raw in fact. I never knew how good for us that really was until recent years. Raw is all the craze, and PawPaw knew it all along! Another thing I grealy admired about PawPaw is that he was a faithful husband to my grandmother (Nanny) for over 60 years. They always called each other pet names like "Babe" and that is something I will never forget. What a blessing it was to both of them to have been together so long upon this earth.

Nanny and PawPaw were blessed with 7 children as well. I am so thankful that my sons got to know their great-grandparents. I am sad with his passing, but it was a peaceful passing into the arms of our Lord. For that I am thankful as well. Now, I am just praying for Nanny as she grieves an incredible loss of her husband. Lift up a prayer for her if you could. Thank you!
