Today, I want to send out a warm "Happy Mother's Day" to my beautiful mother, Sandra. I just want to honor her today by telling you a little bit about her. She is one of the most organizationally-minded people I have ever known. She is such a planner and preparer, always thinking ahead about the practical matters, such as meals and administrative issues. I have always looked up to her for her care and nurture of our home growing up. It was always neat, clean and orderly.
She was and is a wonderful cook, taking time to thoughtfully plan meals out for us as we were growing up. We always ate at the dinner table together, though I admit, as I grew into adolescence and teenage-hood, I really didn't care for too much. To me, it seemed like everyone was out to get me, questioning me about my day and other such horrid things, and the reclusive teen that I was didn't have much use for that kind of thing. My, how things change! Looking back, I am thankful my mother instilled the values of an orderly and inviting home environment. She was a very dedicated mother and wife, and still is.
One memory that makes me chuckle is how I would beg her to sit with me on my bed at night and just talk to me. Her intentions were good, but bless her heart, she was always exhausted, as she is not much of a nightowl like I am. She would drag herself in and plop down and say, "Okay, I'm here. But I've GOT to go to bed. I'm tired!" It would make me laugh even then seeing her sleepy eyes. Now, I can so relate to that motherhood exhaustion! I tend to be like this sometimes with my sons, even though I am frankly in a better mood at night than I am most of the daytime!
My mother also has a quiet wisdom about her, a very practical wisdom that I admire and respect. Her opinion is valuable, and she tends to share it rather emotionally at times, which I also find very endearing now that I am older. I guess because we are so much alike on our "emotional rollercoasters." Do we always see everything the same? No, we don't, but we always seem to get passed it. She has many qualities that I admire, such as faithfulness, thoughtfulness, and a steadfast nature. She is a loyal wife who loves and respects her husband, and I am so thankful for that as well. How could she not be a strong woman to deal with and raise such a strong-willed girl as me?
So Mom, I honor you for the woman that God created you to be. I know He has many more plans for you, to use you, to bless you, and to bring you closer and closer to the Father's heart. May you be blessed today and lifted up. I love you!
