Faint Not, Only Believe!

Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty.
I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.
Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.
Psalm 27:12-14

According to Strong's Concordance, the Hebrew and Greek meaning of "to faint" is: to grow tired, be faint, exhaust oneself, weary, caused to fly. Basically, seeing all that was transpiring against him, David was saying that he would have long since given up were it not for a particular "belief" that he was holding. What was it that David was believing in? Was he dwelling on the future hope that was laid up in store for him in heaven? Was he placing all of his belief and hope in the fact that one day, the Messiah would return and would make everything perfect?

While placing our blessed hope in the return of Jesus is something that we as believers certainly need to do, something we must indeed be longing for, this is not the belief that David was speaking about in this passage. David was believing that he would see God's goodness toward him in THIS life, even in THIS particular situation. David is basically saying, "Lord, if I didn't believe that you work all things for my good NOW while I am alive, and if I didn't believe that I would actually see your goodness here on earth, I would not make it; my faith would not stand!"

David is talking to himself here. He is speaking the truth of who God is to himself and in essence, he is speaking the truth OVER his situation. He is stirring up his most holy faith. He is trusting that God is indeed a good and loving God. Not only that, but that He is more than able and willing to save him from his enemies hands.

Where is your faith today, my friend? Is your faith entirely set upon your future destination? Is your faith solely looking to Christ's return without having any hope for this life you are living now? Looking toward the skies is good! Keep looking for Christ's coming, long for it! But, don't forget that God wants to show you His goodness NOW! He wants you to see Him in the land of the living! He wants to reveal His glory in you NOW! He wants to meet your needs in Him in your current place, circumstance or situation. Just wait, as David. Wait on Him, have courage and believe that you will see His goodness toward you. That you will see and feel His presence around you...That you will indeed experience the goodness of the Lord in the land of YOUR living...

It doesn't take monumental feats to make the world a better place. It can be as simple as letting someone go ahead of you in a grocery line.
